"Life
is rich in textures, layers, and the colors of emotions, played
out on our individual canvases, often unseen. My paintings are
the mirrors, reflecting life in all its emotions, colors, textures
and depth. Just as life is a constant struggle to maintain the
balance within, the most complex paintings may, at first glance,
seem to be the most simple- when to change even one line would
compromise the delicacy and the finite balance within."
~ P. Russell
Raised
throughout the western United States, Penni makes her home just
south of Puyallup, Washington. Formally educated as a commercial
artist and graphic designer, she began working professionally
in 1974. Her commitment to excellence, regardless of medium, has
won her awards and recognition both in the U.S. and in Europe
for her work in nearly every medium she has chosen.
Since
she began drawing at the age of two, art has been her lifeblood
and guiding force.
Though back injuries forced her from the drawing table in 1979,
she continued to pursue artistic expression, utilizing photography
as her primary medium. In early 2005, she fully embraced warm
(kilnformed) glass as a collaborative medium when she discovered
its unique challenges and inherent wonder. In January 2006, she
was able to return fully to her first love, painting. The Entrapment
Series’ culminating piece, Broken Dream-Fast Forward, brought
her passion for painting forward in time and ushered in the complete
return to her roots.
Painting
and warm glass remain her primary mediums, though she will continue
to utilize any medium necessary to bring inspiration to life.
Her work is consistently displayed in selected juried exhibitions
throughout the United States and abroad.
Her
work resides in public and private collections throughout the
U.S. and Europe.
